- Brick Oven, Conan's Pizza, and Mangia's are the best
pizza joints in town. The exact order depends on who you
ask, but these are the places that make pizza "fine
dining" and not something you have delivered. :) Of
the three, Brick Oven is the best place to take a date...

- Mangia is as close as I've had to Chicago-style pizza in
Austin. To really enjoy it, try getting some delivered
(who wants to go way up in that foreign zip code
anyhow?), heating each slice in a frying pan with some
olive oil until the bottom is nice and crispy then
enjoying it with a glass of cool Chianti.
- Same goes for the thick-crust Artichoke Alfredo from
Milto's Pizza.

- Mangia is the best stuffed pizza I've ever had. Get the
pesto sauce. And hit the ATM before you go; it's a little
pricier, but well worth it. (Better yet -- take the
'rents.)

- For deep dish (or even thin crust) pizza, I have found
Mangia to be the best in town.

- They have some excellent deep disk Chicago style pizza.
Their thin crust is second to none I've ever tried. Give
it a try. Look for the delivery truck with the big
Godzilla on it.

- Mangia is my personal favorite. The only thing is, unless
you are ordering one of their daily specials, preparation
can take a while.

- Mangia's is superb. The whole office makes a pilgrimage
to Mangia's once a week, without fail. The service is
marvelous. Susie is one of the best waitresses around.

- I have to disagree with this one. I got a large pizza
from Nick's and it was horrible. Neither my wife, my best
friend nor I wanted more than one piece. It's too bad,
because this place is close to my home. I thought the
place may have redeemed itself when I spotted a foosball
table, but it was in horrible condition, sigh...I'm sorry
I can't give more details about why we didn't like the
pizza, but I seem to have blocked out the memory.

- wow, it seems like nobody's been down to the Pizza Garden
on west 290, in the old Sutter Home (where Gardenville
used to be). This place has the best thin, crispy crust
pizza I've had in Austin. If you like New York style
pizza, you'll like this. The whole wheat crust is
especially crispy (sometimes you can hold it at the edge
and the entire piece will stand straight out!). Plus they
have a whole range of exotic toppings, and they're
reasonably priced (unlike Mangia, which is great, but too
expensive). Definitely my favorite pizza in Austin.

- Believe it or not, the new place next door to UpperCrust
bakery on 45th and Burnet, "Rosedales", makes
this pizza that is out of this world they don't call it
pizza (can't remeber what they do call it) but it is.
They sell it by the slice, try it!

- Don't forget Shields Pizza on Bee Caves Road in West Lake
Hills. This sports bar/pizza restaurant is a great place
to go to watch sports games while eating, or just to hang
out with a bunch of friends. At first the piza looks
deceptively small. It is served Sicilian stlye. This
means that the actual area of the pizza is smaller than
that of Double Dave's, for example. Oh, but when you bite
in to it! It is actually a very thick, deep pizza, just
loaded with cheese and toppings. After having eaten four
pieces of this, I who am 6'2" and weighs 220 was
completely stuffed! I could eat there every day! To top
it off, if you are there with a date, it is not far from
the lookout overlooking the bridge on Route 360 above the
lake, and Mt. Bonnell is also near!
