Comments:
- Bill Woodward (12/23/93)
- I don't know if it's still around, but there was a little
restaurant/ stand at the Farmer's Market on Burnet, kind
of across from Roger Beasley, by the name of 'Aw,
Shucks', which sells packages of freshly made tamales.
I've eaten there several times (last year), and it was
quite good. Don't know about authentic, 'cause I haven't
travelled to Mexico yet to check.
- Dave Fricke (12/23/93)
- There is a shop in the Travis County Farmer's Market that
specializes in tamales.
- Van Garrett (12/23/93)
- Aw Shucks, which recently opened a store in the heart of
Sixth Street, also makes pretty good tamales.

is the best stuff there.

Comments:
- Judy (12/23/93)
- I had some tamales that were purchased at Fiesta the
other night. They were cheese and jalapeno, very hot, and
good! As far as restaurants, most of the true tex mex
have decent tamales, but i've rarely had one that i
thought was above and beyond the others. (True tex mex to
me is Nuevo Leon, Mexico Tipico, maybe El Azteca.)
- Van Garrett (12/23/93)
- I just had some Fiesta tamales, which were frankly
disappointing.
Green & White Grocery, The
- 1201 East Seventh Street
- Austin, Texas 78702
- Tel: (512) 472-0675
Comments:
- Dave Fricke (12/23/93)
- The Green and White grocery on East 7th street, if it
still exists, is famous for its tamales.
- Van Garrett (12/23/93)
- I would send the guy to Green and White Grocery, on 7th
or 6th, I can never remember. It's on the south side of
the street, and they have the best tamales, which they
will box up so he can take whereever he wants.
Las Manitas

- Tel: (512) 472-9357
Comments:
- J.M. Carter (2/10/95)
- Las Manitas on Congress have wonderful vegetarian tamales
on Friday's and Saturday's. I know these aren't
traditional, but they are definetly worth a try.
- Every once in a while, they offer chicken or cheese and
poblano which are great. Ask them to make some for the
menu, or, to take home.
Nuevo Leon

Comments:
- Carl Dahlberg (12/23/93)
- Nuevo Leon, I would imagine, has tamale's and all their
food is good...not to mention their rita's.
- Chuck Herrick (12/23/93)
- Fantastic fajitas.
- Tamales on demand!
- Van Garrett (12/23/93)
- I would second Nuevo Leon

- Rose's Tamale House, around the intersection of highways
620/71/2244.
- Mark A. Breland (12/23/93)
- Rosie's Tamale House on the west side of Hwy 71, just
north of the 71/620 intersection.
- Van Garrett (12/23/93)
- Rose's Tamale House is okay, but I don't think their
other food is very good.
- Barry W. (12/27/93)
- There's also a Rosie's Tamale House on north 183 just
south of 620.
- Good Tamales.
