CHILDREN’S CALENDAR
The Austin Symphony is known throughout the country for its award-winning educational youth programs which reach more than 80,000 young people each year. If you would like more information about these programs, please contact Diana Eblen, Director of Education, at 512-476-6064.
Halloween Children’s Concert, October: ASO’s "younger concert" for its younger audience combines the delight of a child-oriented symphonic performance with the chance to wear Halloween costumes. The concert is an American Symphony Orchestra League national award-winning program. *

Building Blocks, January-April: Quartets and quintets from the ASO visit area elementary schools and introduce over 24,000 pre-kindergarten through third grade children to the instruments of the orchestra.

Young People’s Concerts, March: The entire ASO performs ten special youth concerts in UT’s Bass Concert Hall for over 28,000 fourth, fifth and sixth graders from the Central Texas area.*

Backstage with the Arts, September-March: Two sessions yearly allow children to visit behind-the-scenes activities of musicians, actors, dancers and more! Registration is in September and January. Backstage is another American Symphony Orchestra League award-winning program.*

High School Concerts, February: ASO performs five special concerts in Austin area high schools with high school musicians spotlighted in featured selections.

 Children’s Day Art Park, June- August: Every Wednesday, ASO musicians, mimes, magicians and story tellers entertain children at Symphony Square. Children enjoy special musical performances, an instrumental petting zoo, and the Art Tent. **

Symphony for Simple Simon, September-May: A musical classroom presentation (grades K-3) by WSL members to introduce children to the symphony orchestra–An American Symphony Orchestra League award winner.*

Austin Youth Symphonies, September-May: The Austin Independent School District and the Austin Symphony sponsor several youth symphonies for Austin’s finest young musicians of all ages.

Austin Symphony Youth Award: A yearly competition sponsored by the Austin District Music Teachers Association for talented musicians 18 or younger who live within a 50-mile radius of Austin. The winners are guest soloists with the ASO High School Concerts.

Adopt-a-School, September-May: A gold card sponsor, the ASO offers two free symphony tickets per concert to high school students designated as AISD Trustee Scholars.
