Austin Handel-Haydn Society founder and Artistic Director, David Stevens, is active in Texas both as a conductor and as a tenor soloist. In addition to his work with the Austin Handel-Haydn Society, he is the music director of the Austin Civic Chorus, a 140-voice oratorio choir, and is director of music at St. David’s Episcopal Church of Austin. Alongside his conducting responsibilities, Dr. Stevens performs regularly as a tenor soloist, singing with such organizations as the Austin Symphony, the Orchestra of Santa Fe, the Texas Bach Choir, and the Collegium Vocale of Atlanta. As a choral singer, Dr. Stevens has sung under Maestros Robert Shaw and Helmut Rilling. Dr. Stevens has also performed with several Texas groups specializing in early music: the Texas Baroque Ensemble, the Dallas Bach Society, and the Texas Early Music Project. In December of this year, Dr. Stevens will take the baton before the Austin Symphony Orchestra in its annual Christmas Pops concert.
Founded in 1992 by David Stevens, the Orchestra of St. David’s is comprised of the finest professional instrumental musicians of Central Texas. Since its inception, this group of talented musicians has performed regularly with the Austin Handel-Haydn Society and the Austin Civic Chorus.
