Country & Western star Larry Gatlin will join the Austin Symphony for "A New Program of Old Favorites" at the Holiday Pops concerts on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 30 and 31. ASO Assistant Conductor Timothy Muffitt will conduct the performances, which are scheduled from 8 -10:30 p.m. each evening at Palmer Auditorium.

Grammy-Award winner Gatlin started performing at the age of seven in Abilene, Texas and continued with gospel groups until entering the University of Houston on a football scholarship. After pursuing a degree in law, despite his desire for a career in the music industry, he developed contacts on the Nashville music scene and eventually moved there and began working as a singer / songwriter. After his first #1 hit, "Broken Lady," he joined forces with his brothers in the mid-seventies and the hits started flowing in– "I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love" and "All The Gold in California." In 1993, he starred in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical The Will Rogers Follies. He and his brothers recently opened the 2000-seat Gatlin Brothers Theater in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring picnic suppers; cash bars will be set up around the auditorium (all beverages must be purchased at the auditorium). Tables for ten are available on the auditorium floor at $25 per person; individual seats in the balcony are $15 each. Tickets are available to the public beginning December 15 and may be purchased at the Symphony Square Box Office, 1lth and Red River.
