The Austin Symphony with the Austin Civic Chorus Present Handel’s "Messiah"
Co-Sponsored by Fisher-Rosemount and Hartland Bank

Handel’s Messiah will be performed by the Austin Symphony and the Austin Civic Chorus on Tuesday, December 9, at 8 pm at Palmer Auditorium. Dr. David Stevens, Music Director of the Austin Civic Chorus, will conduct the Symphony and the Austin Civic Chorus in a performance of Handel’s masterpiece. Featured soloists are Suzanne Ramo, Soprano; Cindy Sadler, Mezzo-Soprano; Mark Schreiner, Tenor; Bruce Cain, Bass.

Messiah had a triumphant premiere in Dublin in 1742. It was not until 1750, however, that the work began to receive its due in London. The composer presented it for the benefit of the London Foundling Hospital; Handel’s presentation of its proceeds to a worthy cause inspired a wave of public goodwill, and it became a huge success. While maintaining its emotional and artistic impact, Messiah remains a perennial favorite of the holiday repertoire.
