"Children’s Day Art Park" At Symphony Square Begins June 4th
Sponsored by 3M, Target, City of Austin, Foley’s and H-E-B

Toot a horn, listen to a story, enjoy a dance or music performance — all at the Austin Symphony’s Children’s Day Art Park, which begins Wednesday, June 4, from 9:30 – 12 noon at Symphony Square, 11th and Red River. Children’s Day continues Wednesday mornings through July 30.

Beginning at 9:30 am, children can visit the "Instrumental Petting Zoo" where they can try their hand at playing different instruments from the orchestra. During the morning festivities, members of the Austin Symphony Orchestra visit with the children about their instruments and play favorite tunes. At 10 am performances especially geared for young children are presented on stage. In addition, each week there are storytellers, mimes, and magicians to add to the fun.

Performers in June are Joe McDermott on June 4, Beto y Los Fairlanes on June 11, ASO Brass Ensemble on June 18 and Sue Young – "cantos y cuentos" on June 25. Performers in July are Bill Oliver’s Teddy Bear Picnic (bring your favorite Teddy Bear!) on July 2, Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklorico de Texas on July 9, Hays County Gals on July 16th, Inside Out Steel Band on July 23rd and Jon Emery on July 30. After the show, children can follow the Pied Piper down the "Lemonade Trail" to the Art Tent where local artisans "set up shop" and children can create a variety of items to take home.

Admission to Children’s Day Art Park is 50 cents a child; adults are free when accompanied by a child. Lemonade is 10 cents a cup. Those attending are encouraged to pack a sack lunch and picnic on the banks of Waller Creek. For more information, call the Austin Symphony at 476-6064.
